Zion National Park - Small Big Trips

In my honest opinion, this particular video was a real find. Why do I say this? It was in 2018, the year I took this trip for the second time to Zion National Park in the south of the state of Utah, certainly one of the most beautiful and striking of all the national parks I had the opportunity to visit up until that moment. I remember that I had bought my 1999 Mazda Miata and I really wanted t...

This trip to Seattle, WA was not as well done as I would have liked. One of the factors was the weather conditions, late September 2023 and the temperatures were even mild but the cloudy sky and the rain that fell almost every day I was there, did not contribute to the success of the trip itself. So I can't help but say that I will have to go back - it will be an absolute pleasure - and then ma...

Thanks for this review. This movie is an absolute gem - such a joy to watch. To me this is one of the greatest films ever. However, I have e different view on the lead roles: Taylor is perfect as Marcus, but Kerr as Lygia is even better in my opinion. It’s not easy to play a good gentile woman and not come across as boring or predictable - the Polyanna ‘all-is-great’ type. What you call her character Lygia giving Marcus a cold shoulder is really her inner Christian strength fighting the temptation of submitting to the attraction to this newly met man, a Roman pagan. So it’s like a dance between them in that first scene together. It’s a deliberate scene in the script ( it’s not this way in the book on which the film is loosely based). Neither Peck nor Elizabeth Taylor could do better than Robert and Deborah in Quo vadis. Some people say that they might’ve chosen someone younger for the role of Vinicius, but I watched the movie as a teenager and never felt that he was too old for the part.

I’m really happy to know that you came on Deborah Kerr’s defense and perhaps understands better than I her performance. I really like her a lot but in different films like “The Innocents” probably one of her best - very hard to think a different actor for that particular roll, as well she delivers other great performances in many other films. Thank you.

MGM's lavish cinema achievement Quo Vadis (1951) is a spectacular motion picture in every respect, from the cast and screenplay to the sets and music! Sir Peter Ustinov's incredible performance as Emperor Nero is superb, and the Wagnerian score by Miklos Rozsa is outstanding. Quo Vadis has remained my favorite film since I eagerly saw it upon its initial release. Daniel Nobre is to be commended for his honest and insightful review of Quo Vadis, which will help to keep this classic epic movie alive for a new generation of cinema enthusiasts. Prof. Dr. Dr. H. My favourite version of a film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet is the 2013 film directed by Carlo Carlei. The adaptation of the play by Julian Fellowes was on point considering their aim to make it more accessible to a modern (younger) audience. The Director and the actors used exquisite subtlety to portray the depth of their love for each other, as well as their innocence. I will cite only some examples: (1) Juliet's expression when Romeo removed her mask perfectly portrayed the joy and wonder that she was experiencing - falling in love for the first time, and so deeply at that. Romeo's face and eyes showed his feelings towards her and his reaction to her response to him. It was supreme acting because the actors made it look real!; (2) Romeo's expression of pure joy from the moment that Juliet asks him "is your love pure, your purpose marriage?", followed by his assurance that it is and her commitment to "lay all her fortunes at his feet and follow him throughout the world". The scenes that follow after this were sublime acting: his seriousness when posing the request to the Friar and the happy smile when Friar Laurence agreed, his face beaming joy throughout the exchange with the Nurse and his seriousness and joy throughout the wedding ceremony; (3) During the "wedding night" scene there are so many gems: Firstly, Romeo's attitude and the way he looks at her and held is oozed concern that she is completely distraught at Tybalt's death, Secondly, the nuances of their love-play: he is looking at her with a mixture and passion and wonder, almost incredulity that this gift is his now. He starts unwrapping his gift by removing her earrings - his touch is sensual and innocent at the same time, while his eyes never leave hers. Then he slips her wrap off her shoulders, his fingers caressing her whilst he's doing this and, when her bare arms are revealed to him for the first time, he strokes her skin - it looks sensual, but light and gentle as well. Her eyes and facial expression, in turn, show her awakening and enjoyment of their intimacy, followed by her removing his shirt - again in a way that is reminiscent of someone unwrapping a gift; (4) As Romeo wakes up, with Juliet fully clothed in her night-dress and him in awful grandpa "underpants", the slightest of smiles, a gentle kiss on her forehead and his eyes, his expression throughout the scene that follow, depict his remembrance of their intimacy the night before. This subtlety contrasts with the nudity in previous film versions and I loved it!; (5) Juliet gives Romeo a pink rose after he said "adieu", i.e., just before they parted. In Shakespeare's text (in another scene) it becomes clear that "pink" or "flower" is synonymous with a girl's virginity and lady parts in general. Hence, the symbolism is that she re-affirms to him that she is his. The actor who played Romeo deserves a special commendation for his response to this: the play of emotions in his eyes, on his face, his mouth, showed how profoundly touched he was by this. The 2013 R&J movie essentially flopped at the Box Office and that it received the harshest of criticism, but I firmly believe it was because viewers did not pick up on these subtleties. Having said that, I am fully aware that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", so maybe I am one of a very small contingent of fans, but I am indeed a huge fan!

Thanks for the great review! When I saw it in 1987, it became my favorite film. It's now 2023, and it's still my favorite. Movies with uncommon friendships and quirky characters are always so wonderful. Add a unique, perfect setting like "Bagdad" and the music, and this is an underappreciated gem of a movie.

@@dano332001 I will never get tired of this movie! The performances are brilliant and beautiful. But I've always resisted watching the CBS sitcom inspired by the movie (Whoopi Goldberg and Jean Stapleton in the lead roles, 1990-1991) for fear of spoiling "my" movie. 😉 Now, I think I will find those 15 episodes and appreciate them as a forgotten homage to a brilliant film.

Tarr was interested in only making a film about those characters and he mentioned it as a love story. As an artist, its fair that he didnt want his work to be mis interpreted on a public forum and he wanted him to watch it again to get a better perspective.
